Cis Fish & Me

Globally, there are 111 cisgender/cis(not trans) people to every 1 transgender person. When I finished painting cis fish # 25, I was already exhausted and realized this painting was going to take many more days and hours than I anticipated. Painting this helped me realize that when I’m exhausted at the end of the day: hella valid. 

A side quest of this piece speaks to performative ally-ship. I added the speech and thought bubbles with the intent to play around with text and painting. However, once completed I took a step back and realized how heavily influenced this piece is by the murals and street art of San Francisco during my 20-year visit.
